Project ModuLimb
The ModuLimb project was developed as part of the PLTW Engineering Design and Development (EDD) Capstone class, which challenges students to solve real-world problems through research-based, team-driven design. As a team, we chose to address issues faced by transfemoral amputees, such as discomfort, high costs, and limited mobility—driven by their passion for human-centered engineering.
Initially aiming to build a modular prosthetic leg, we decided to pivot after realizing the complexity of prototyping it within their timeline. Instead, our team created the Chronowalker, a non-passive prosthetic foot, and launched the ModuLimb Marketplace, a platform for customizable, affordable prosthetic an orthotic components. This dual solution allowed them to maintain their mission while staying realistic, showcasing their adaptability and commitment to meaningful innovation.
